Labour Party Emails up to the Election

5 May 2010 20:50

The first thing to say, is that all-but-one of Labour's emails came through to me with this warning:

The emails, in the order they arrived were:

  • SPAM-LOW: Match their millions | David Blunkett, 21/04/2010
  • SPAM-LOW: What can you do tonight? | Douglas Alexander, 22/04/2010
  • SPAM-LOW: State of the Race memo 4 | Peter Mandelson, 25/04/2010
  • SPAM-LOW: SPAM-LOW: My apology to Mrs Duffy | Gordon Brown, 28/04/2010
  • SPAM-LOW: Tonight: Substance vs Style | Douglas Alexander, 29/04/2010

  • State of the Race memo 5 | Peter Mandelson, 01/05/2010
  • Less than eighty hours until polls close | Harriet Harmen, 03/05/2010
  • SPAM-LOW: Midnight Tonight |
  • SPAM-LOW: Fw: Midnight Tonight | Douglas Alexander, 04/05/2010

Overview

The first emails that started to come through were more like blog posts — commentry on the days' goings on. As the days ticked past though, things swung to emails repeatedly asking for donations. Peter Mandelson even said that Labour were the underdogs and they always have been. Don't think I've heard any of them say that on TV. Anyway, after the donation request emails, the target again swung to kick Party supporters into action for the final weekend before the election. There were also a couple last requests for people to look under their beds for any spare change.

Every email they sent has:

  • A pretty consistent look. Consistent meaning they all looked a bit drab. Most of them required permission to download content, but most only downloaded a Donate button. A few had images of videos for people to watch, nothing too spectactular though. If I can't be bothered to read long winded jokes about a man that goes to the doctor, I wouldn't be that crazy about reading these. I imagine they're pretty busy right now though, so I'll let them off
  • Most of them had Donate buttons at the foot of the email. Except the one from Gordon Brown begging forgiveness for Bigotgate (how unexciting is British politics?)
  • A few links per email. Most of them pointed to their donate page
  • They were all started "Paul,". Isn't that nice?

For anyone interested, half the links are fed through taomail.co.uk, whatever that is. There's no website there.
